FOOD as medicine programs
WEST OAHU PRODUCE PRESCRIPTION PROGRAM
Adults 18+ with a nutrition related chronic disease and on Medicaid eligible to receive $100/month for 12 months.
MANA KU PRODUCE PRESCRIPTION PROGRAM
Elementary school aged children/parent dyad old receive $100/month for 12 months.
FOOD SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM
This program is for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) households, who struggle to afford basic costs of living, yet do not qualify for financial assistance.
ALICE households receive $250/month for 6 months.
Vouchers can also use to buy local proteins & honey at the Mākeke Waiʻanae, farmersʻ and green markets or with online ordering and free delivery through Farm Link Hawaii.
Food as Medicine program participants complete surveys throughout the programs to measure food insecurity, fruit and vegetable intake, and health-related quality of life. Data are tracked in participant's WCCHC Medical Records to connect good food with positive health outcomes.
Women, Infant & Children (WIC)
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk.
The Wai’anae WIC office is located off the main highway through Wai’anae town. The Wai’anae WIC Program features free parking, transportation and easy bus access on the C bus route. The Wai’anae location features evening appointments every Wednesday.
The Ewa WIC office is located in the historic town of Ewa. It features free parking and easy bus access on the 44 bus route. Ewa clinic appointments are available during office hours. Our Registered Dietitians and other friendly staff are here to assist with your nutrition and breastfeeding questions.

FREE monthly wellness workshops:
Workshops are focused on healthy cooking, growing your own food, food preservation, financial literacy and culture. Check out our Instagram and Facebook pages elepaiosocialservices for more information on upcoming workshops and topics.
Food Sovereignty
Backyard Growers project helps to get food trees into the yards of our community to helps strengthen the food security of our coast. Free planting material, irrigation set up and technical assistance it provided to participants. Community Food Project, Hanai Ai O Waianae, helsp to provide seed funding to community led food projects that help to strengthen the local food system.
FREE community events:
The Waiʻanae Eat Local Challenge event happens every Tuesday and Saturday in the month of February and provides free cooking demonstrations, food sampling, agricultural workshops, entertainment, and activities for the keiki to help highlight the amazing local produce grown in our community. Local food purchases are incentivized with a stamp card that enters you to win prizes at the finale with a grand prize of a kuʻi board and stone and tons of prizes from our vendors! Check in weekly to take the challenge and receive a gift for participating!
Mauka To Makai:
Mauka to Makai is a two day event that shares the beauty and sacredness of our ahupuaʻa. Day one starts at Kaʻala Farm (Mauka) to learn about our Waiʻanae water shed, moʻolelo of the space, traditional farming practices, cooking and cultural activities and free lunch made with ingredients from our community! Day two is in partnership with Na Kama Kai in which we start the morning with a beach clean up at Pokaʻi Bay (Makai), followed by cultural activities on land and in ocean, including stand up paddle board, canoe paddling and sailing. Live entertainment and free lunch provided!
