About

Aloha mai kākou and e komo mai (greetings to all and welcome) to the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center's (WCCHC) Family Medicine Residency Program! We are the first Teaching Health Center , Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)-based residency program in the state of Hawai'i! WCCHC is the largest FQHC on the island of O'ahu and provides primary care to the people of the Wai'anae Coast (Mākaha, Wai'anae, Lualualei, Nānākuli), Kapolei, Ewa Beach, and Waipahu communities. The residency clinic will be based out of the beautiful James and Abigail Campbell Clinic in Nānākuli. We have a 3-3-3 residency program beginning in July 2025. Our residents will spend time throughout the WCCHC clinic system, including our stand-alone emergency department in Māʻili, and do required inpatient rotations at our affiliated hospitals within the Queen’s Medical Centers at Manamana and West O‘ahu.

If you are passionate about training and one day practicing in an underserved, multi-cultural, community health setting then this is the residency program for you!

Mission

We are dedicated to promoting WCCHC's aims of healing, learning, and innovation by training culturally competent Family Medicine physicians from diverse backgrounds to provide high-quality, innovative, and affordable healthcare to the most vulnerable populations in the State of Hawai'i.

James and Abigail Campbell Clinic in Nānākuli

History

WCCHC was founded in 1972 with just one doctor and five staff providing primary care in Māʻili. Since then, the clinic system has grown to include the main campus in Māʻili along with satellite clinics at Wai'anae mall, Nānākuli, Kapolei, Ewa Beach, Waipahu, and six school-based health clinics on the Wai'anae Coast. In 2021, WCCHC received the Teaching Health Center Planning & Development (THCPD) Grant to assist our health center with creating the first Teaching Health Center, FQHC-based residency program in the state of Hawai‘i. In 2023, WCCHC was approved as a sponsoring institution by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). In January 2025, Ho'okahua I Ke Ola Family Medicine Residency Program was awarded initial accreditation by the ACGME and will be welcoming our first three residents in July 2025.
